Britney Mayes reported that her 4-year-old daughter, Averylee “Avery” Hobbs, had become unresponsive after being placed in a bathtub. Avery was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, but she died days later. What initially sounded like a medical emergency soon became a homicide investigation. The Hamilton County Coroner determined that Avery had suffered blunt-force trauma to the head and ruled her death a homicide.
