A convicted drug dealer filed a $3.5 million lawsuit against the Daytona Beach Police Department, claiming two officers violated his civil rights during a traffic stop. The officers sustained minor injuries when the suspect, identified as Kary Jarvis, attempted to flee while they were holding onto the car. Jarvis was subsequently arrested on multiple felony charges, including battery on law enforcement. However, bodycam video of the incident prompted a judge’s written reprimand, stating that the officers acted illegally. According to Judge Sandra Upchurch, “Mr. Jarvis was unlawfully detained after his first denial of consent. Had officers allowed Mr. Jarvis to leave, as he was entitled to, no one would have gotten hurt. The injuries resulted from the officers’ own illegal activity.” #cops #traffic #lawsuit #dashcam #policechase #truecrimestories
