Police bodycam footage from San Antonio, Texas: a man wanted for shooting someone at a car wash steps outside his home and opens fire on officers with an AR-15 rifle. This police bodycam footage from the San Antonio Police Department covers the officer-involved shooting on S. Mesquite St. from three body cameras - the first officer's contact and retreat to cover, a high-angle view of the gunman firing from between two vehicles, and the single rifle shot that ended it. Real bodycam footage, no narration added - the officers' own words and the department's critical incident briefing carry the video. WHAT HAPPENED March 28, 2023, about 2:15 PM. A dispute over money at a car wash near Essex St and Hackberry St on San Antonio's East Side ends with 34-year-old Paul Palafox shooting another man in the leg. Officers dispatched to the shooting are pointed to Palafox's home in the 1300 block of S. Mesquite St. The first officer to arrive finds him outside and calls out to him - "Don't reach for anything, bro! Don't do it!" Palafox comes up with an AR-15 and opens fire. The officer falls back to cover, more officers arrive and take positions, and Palafox keeps firing - from inside the house, from the doorway, and finally from between two vehicles. Police say he fired 26 rounds in all; rounds struck patrol vehicles, an SUV and a nearby home. An officer across the street finds a line of sight and fires one round. Palafox is hit and stops firing. OUTCOME Palafox was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died there on March 31, 2023. No officers or residents were injured. SAPD filed a charge of attempted capital murder of a police officer. Four officers with 4 to 20 years of service were involved; the Bexar County District Attorney's Office reviewed the shooting, as with every SAPD officer-involved shooting, along with the SAPD Shooting Team and Internal Affairs.
