Watch this police interrogation with intense raw interrogation from the interrogation room as police conduct a full interrogation of a suspect. This raw interrogation footage captures every moment of the suspect interview, complete with deception detection techniques, and criminal psychology in true JCS style interrogation. 1. The Background Austin Gene Combs (then 26; later reported as 28), a resident of Okeana/Morgan Township, Butler County, Ohio, was the next-door neighbor of Anthony Lee King (43). Combs lived with or near his father; King lived with his wife Kristen and at least one son. Prior interactions: Family members reported Combs had approached or confronted King multiple times (described as about four occasions) making statements; King’s wife stated on the 911 call that Combs confronted her husband because he thought King was a Democrat. Combs later told investigators different motives (including claims that King had committed crimes and that Combs had broken into the King home and stolen underwear). Investigators determined those claims were false and found no supporting police reports or investigations. Sheriff’s statements indicated Combs’ confessed reasons were non-political. Combs had a reported prior incident in 2017 involving stabbing his father (he was not convicted of assault; he admitted it and his father corroborated during later questioning). 2. The Crime Date: November 5, 2022 (Saturday morning, around 11:45–11:46 a.m.). Location: King’s backyard/yard at a residence on Chapel Road, Okeana, Morgan Township, Butler County, Ohio. King was doing yard work (cutting grass/wood). His wife was outside with him, then went inside to let the dog(s) out. While she was inside, multiple gunshots were heard. She looked out and saw Combs walking away from King, who was on the ground. King was unarmed. He was shot multiple times (autopsy reported five times, including four to the head). Death was ruled a homicide by the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Prosecutors later described evidence consistent with prior calculation: Combs selected a firearm from multiple guns in his home, left his residence, went around a wooded tree line, and waited until Kristen King left the yard before approaching and shooting King. 3. The Investigation 911 calls were made by King’s family (son and wife). The wife reported seeing Combs walking away after the shots and referenced prior confrontations over perceived politics. Butler County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded, confirmed King deceased at the scene, and located Combs (with his father) shortly afterward in a Jeep on Ohio State Route 126 West near the area. Combs initially denied involvement for several hours, then admitted to shooting King several times with a revolver. Video evidence corroborated statements by Combs and witnesses. A search of Combs’ residence located multiple unlocked/readily available firearms, including the handgun used in the shooting (hidden behind boxes in a closet per Combs’ statement; it tested positive as the murder weapon). Combs was arrested the same day and initially charged with murder. A grand jury later indicted him on aggravated murder with a gun specification. He pleaded not guilty. Bond was initially set high ($950,000) and later adjusted (held without bond or at $1 million in reports). Sheriff’s investigators stated that in interviews Combs did not cite King’s political beliefs as a motive. 4. Conviction and Sentencing No trial on the merits has occurred. In March 2023, Butler County Common Pleas Judge Michael Oster Jr. found Combs incompetent to stand trial (after forensic psychologist evaluations) but restorable with treatment. He was ordered to Summit Behavioral Health in Cincinnati. Combs refused medication at times; prosecutors sought (and obtained authorization for) forced medication. He was also charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly striking a facility worker in July 2023. Multiple competency evaluations followed (reports conflicted at points; defense disputed restorations). On August 16, 2024, after further evaluations, Judge Oster ruled Combs was not restorable to competency within the remaining statutory time. The court retained jurisdiction. Combs was ordered to remain in treatment at Summit Behavioral Health for life unless/until restored to competency, at which point he could face trial on the aggravated murder charge. As of the most recent detailed public reports (2024), there has been no conviction or criminal sentence for the 2022 shooting.
