Information: On January 8th, 2024, a Grand Traverse County Deputy observed a silver Chrysler 200 partially blocking an intersection in Acme Township and began monitoring the vehicle. The driver traveled through multiple gas station lots before entering US-31, where he was seen swerving, crossing the center line, and nearly striking other vehicles. When the deputy activated lights and sirens, the driver failed to stop and a pursuit began. Speeds reached approximately 120 mph according to the police report. The vehicle ran multiple stop signs, a red light at Acme Corners, and collided with another car before continuing. The pursuit ended behind a local hotel when the driver struck a cargo container and attempted to flee on foot. Deputies located open alcohol containers and marijuana inside the vehicle, noted signs of intoxication, and conducted a legal blood draw via search warrant. The suspect, identified as Benjamin Edward Coyne, was charged with OWI 3rd, felony fleeing and eluding, resisting/obstructing, DWLS, and open intoxicants.
