On February 18, 2024 at approximately 1:43 AM, Deputy Christopher Olin with the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office observed a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic fail to stop at a stop sign on Stadium Way. He drove towards the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Providence Court near Valley Road. The driver was identified as 21-year-old Elenor, and she told the Deputy that she was driving her friends home from the bar. As he was speaking with Elenor, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed indicators of impairment. He asked Elenor how much she had to drink, and she initially denied consuming alcohol. After she was asked to exit the vehicle, she admitted to drinking 1 beverage at Zeppoz around midnight. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Elenor was asked to perform field sobriety exercises. The first field sobriety exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Deputy Petersen observed 4/6 clues of impairment. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Elenor did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Elenor failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and did not look down at her foot for the entire duration of the test. Following the field sobriety exercises, Elenor was offered the opportunity to submit to a PBT. The results of the PBT indicated a BAC level of 0.132%. After seeing the results of her PBT, Elenor finally admitted to consuming a double drink following the end of her shift at 11:30 PM. Based on her traffic infraction, the odor of alcohol, her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises, and the results of the PBT, Elenor was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Deputy Olin initially transported her to the Pullman Police Department for further processing. At the Pullman Police Department, Elenor asked to speak with an attorney. After speaking with the attorney, Deputy Olin read her the implied consent warning and she agreed to submit breath samples. Her first breath test results indicated a BAC level of IR 0.128 and EC 0.129, while her second breath test results indicated a BAC level of IR 0.128 and EC 0.129. After the Alcotest was administered, Deputy Olin transported Elenor to the Whitman County Jail where she was turned over to a Corrections Officer. Elenor was booked into the jail, cited for DUI (RCW 46.61.502), and eventually released pending her court appearance. ---------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting our channel (email us for more information).
