In the early morning hours of January 1, 2023, an off-duty police officer called the Rio Rancho Police Department to report a vehicle that was driving through the landscaping of a local elementary school. Officer Arzola arrived first and viewed the extensive damage to the school property. Sgt. Fleming arrived shortly thereafter and decided to follow the trail of leaking fluid. He located the badly damaged vehicle a short time later. A 19-year-old woman and her boyfriend decided to deny any involvement over and over and over. The police were allegedly able to view surveillance footage from the school property, which showed the woman was driving the vehicle. She was asked to submit to standardized field sobriety testing. At the conclusion of the testing, she was placed under arrest for DUI. At the police station, she submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.16% BAC. Her boyfriend was released at the scene with a criminal citation for minor consuming alcohol. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
