It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Early on February 5th, 2023, around 1:47 AM, Officer Zachary Davis saw a car. It was a 2016 Mercedes-Benz. It drifted off the road on S Milledge Avenue. This happened near Riverbend Road. He turned on his lights to stop the car. The driver pulled over by the UGA Softball Stadium entrance. Officer Davis approached the car. He spoke to the driver and a passenger. The driver said she did not have her license. She was 20-year-old Rachel Ferguson. Her passenger was Elizabeth Coffin. Officer Davis told Rachel she had broken traffic rules. He smelled alcohol while talking to her. Rachel said she was picking up a friend downtown. Officer Davis asked her to get out of the car. He still smelled alcohol on her. So, he asked her to do some tests. He started with the eye test. He saw her eyes moved unevenly. They shook at the farthest point. They also started shaking before a 45-degree angle. Her eyes did not move up and down. Next was the walk and turn test. Rachel did not walk heel-to-toe. She also took the wrong number of steps. The last test was standing on one leg. Rachel did not follow instructions. She took big steps instead of lifting her foot. Because of her bad driving, the alcohol smell, and failing the tests, Rachel was arrested for DUI. Officer Davis read her the Implied Consent Notice. She agreed to take a breath test. She was taken to a substation. Sergeant Dieball gave her the breathalyzer. She told Sergeant Dieball she worked at Moonshine Bar & Grill. Her breath test showed a BAC of 0.161%. This was more than twice the legal limit. Officer Davis took Rachel to the Clarke County Jail. Another officer called him. That officer found a fake ID in Rachel's car.
