Around 9:25 PM on August 6, 2023, Officer Jazmin Wright with the Tampa Police Department responded to the parking lot of Dick's Sporting Goods located at 258 Westshore Plaza to investigate a motor vehicle crash. She arrived on scene and noticed that a white 2017 Kia Forte had sustained severe front end damages after striking 2023 Tesla. She made contact with the driver of the Kia, who was identified as Angelique Zohou Banks. As she was speaking with Angelique, she observed indicators of impairment and called for a DUI officer to respond and investigate further. Officer Thomas Baden later arrived on scene and made contact with Angelique and her boyfriend. Her boyfriend initially claimed to be driving in an effort to cover for his girlfriend. However, Officer Baden asked both of them how tall they were. Her boyfriend stated that he was 6 feet tall while his girlfriend was 5’2’’. Officer Baden then asked why the seat was positioned forward if he had been driving, and he seemed unable to explain. Angelique eventually admitted that she was the one who was driving. Based on his suspicion of impairment, he asked Angelique to perform field sobriety exercises. Her boyfriend continued with his attempts to interfere with Officer Baden’s investigation, so he placed him inside Officer Wright’s car without handcuffs as he administered the field sobriety exercises with Angelique. Officer Baden started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer Baden observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Angelique failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Angelique failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete. Based on the motor vehicle crash, her indicators of impairment, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Officer Baden placed Angelique under arrest for driving under the influence. Angelique was transported to Central Breath Testing for further processing, and she agreed to submit breath samples. Her breath samples indicated BAC levels of 0.244, 0.221, and 0.249, which were approximately triple the legal limit of 0.08. Angelique was charged with a DUI (316.193) and eventually released pending her court appearance. ---------------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information).
