It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 12:49 AM on August 30, 2024, Patrolman Kevin Connor from the Highlands Police saw a gray 2019 Toyota Highlander swerving between lanes on State Route 36. He turned on his lights to pull the car over. The driver stopped on the shoulder just past Lakeside Drive in Atlantic Highlands. Connor approached the vehicle and talked to the 18-year-old sitting in the passenger seat, named Gloria. He also spoke with Nohemi, the 35-year-old passenger and the vehicle’s owner. Gloria told the officer she didn't speak English, but Nohemi did. Nohemi said that both of them had been drinking earlier that night. Connor noticed an open container inside the car. He called for help from another officer to assist with translation. Officers Patrolman Anthony Flores and Patrolman Davi Cunha arrived soon after. Cunha helped with translation and asked Gloria to get out and do field sobriety tests. Cunha started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Next was the Walk and Turn test, which Gloria passed. The third was the One Leg Stand. She counted to 14 before putting her foot down. The officer noticed her driving was wild, she smelled like alcohol, and she admitted to drinking. There was also an open container in the car. Because of this, Gloria was placed under arrest. Nohemi was also arrested for allowing an intoxicated person to drive a car. At the police station, Gloria read the standard statement for drivers and agreed to give a breath sample. Her BAC tested at 0.07%, above New Jersey’s legal limit for drivers under 21, which is 0.01%. After processing both women, they were released until court day. Gloria received citations for driving under the influence, underage DWI, reckless driving, open container, lane violation, and unlicensed driving.
