Around 1:20 AM on February 26, 2025, Officer Trey Wilson with the Highland Park Police Department observed a silver 2019 Nissan Sentra drive through a red light at the intersection of S 5th Avenue and Raritan Avenue. He followed the vehicle as the driver continued onto Woodbridge Avenue. He eventually activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in the parking lot of White Rose Hamburgers (154 Woodbridge Avenue). He exited his patrol car and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Hannah Levy. As he was speaking with Hannah, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Hannah began crying and told the officer that she was upset. She also told the officer that she was coming from Blackthorn in New Brunswick, and admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Hannah was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises after Officer Rentenberg with the Metuchen Police Department arrived on scene to assist. Hannah’s poor performance on the field sobriety exercises confirmed the officers’ suspicion of impairment. Based on her traffic infraction, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol at a bar earlier that evening, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Officer Wilson placed Hannah under arrest for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Wilson transported Hannah to the Highland Park Police Department for further processing. At the Highland Park Police Department, Hannah was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and initially agreed to submit breath samples. However, she ultimately refused to submit sufficient breath samples despite 11 separate attempts, so she was ultimately charged with a refusal. When the officers were finished with processing her, Hannah was released to a sober adult around 4:20 AM after she signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Hannah’s behalf. Officer Wilson issued Hannah the following traffic citations: -Operating under the influence (39:4-50) -Refusal to submit to chemical test (39:4-50.4A) -Reckless driving (39:4-96) -Failure to obey traffic control device (39:4-81) On June 17, 2025, Hannah pleaded guilty to reckless driving, while the other 3 citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. As a result of her guilty plea, Hannah had to pay a total of $240 in fines. ---------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information). This is similar to other law enforcement channels on YouTube. All videos and case documents were obtained pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq. (P.L. 2024, c.16). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. North Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person's reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
