Following a football game at Belleville High School, police officers observed a group of spectators engaged in a loud verbal dispute in the bleachers. While officers attempted to intervene and clear the area to prevent escalation, some individuals in the crowd became uncooperative and ignored multiple police instructions. During the attempt to restore order, a spectator lunged toward an officer and struck them in the leg with a kick. This resulted in a physical struggle as the individual was placed under arrest and moved to a patrol vehicle for transport. The person was subsequently charged with a felony-level assault on an officer before being released pending a future court appearance. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
