It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Just after midnight on April 23, 2025, around 12:50 a.m., Patrolman Michael Spark from the West Long Branch Police spotted a black 2016 Jeep Patriot. It sat way past the stop line at SR 36 and Monmouth Road. He swung his car around. Then he trailed the Jeep as it headed west on SR 36. The driver kept weaving between lanes. Spark flipped on his emergency lights for a stop. He approached the Jeep. The driver turned out to be Amber Poppe. While talking to her, he smelled alcohol. He noticed signs she might be impaired. Amber said she was driving home from Jack’s in Long Branch, New Jersey. She confessed to two drinks that night. Suspecting trouble, he asked her to step out. She did field sobriety tests next. First came the Walk and Turn. Amber missed heel-to-toe steps. She turned the wrong way. Her arms swung out instead of staying down. Last was the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. Her counting went off track. She dropped her foot too soon. Her wild driving, the booze smell, her own words about drinking, and the botched tests sealed it. Officers arrested Amber for DUI. They put her in the patrol car. Her Jeep got towed for a 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Spark drove her to the West Long Branch station for more steps. There, they read her the standard rights for drivers. She agreed to a breath test. Sergeant Robert Knott ran the Alcotest machine. Results showed 0.185% blood alcohol—over twice the 0.08% limit. Once done, they let her go to her boyfriend. He signed the liability warning for her. She faced court soon. Citations hit her for DUI, reckless driving, and lane violations.
