(Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only.) Late one night in New Mexico, officers spotted a car going the wrong way down a one-way street. Before they even activated their lights the driver had already hit a curb hard enough to blow out both tires on one side of the vehicle. By the time officers reached the window the situation had already told them everything they needed to know. She was slurring her words. A strong odor of alcohol was coming from inside the car. When officers asked her how much she had been drinking she said nothing. When they pointed out she was slurring she said she wasn't. And when they asked her to step out of the vehicle — she locked the doors, rolled up every window, and picked up her phone. What followed was one of the longest and most stubborn refusals to exit a vehicle ever captured on bodycam. Officers issued warning after warning — step out or we will break the window. She didn't move. More units were called. The warnings continued. She still didn't move. Officers gave her one final chance. She ignored it. The window came in. She was physically removed from the vehicle, placed on the ground, and taken into custody. Even then — on the ground, in cuffs — she told officers she would not get into the patrol unit until her sergeant arrived. Officers told her they were not waiting. And that's when the detail came out that reframed everything that had just happened on that street. She was an off-duty New Mexico State Police officer. The woman who went the wrong way, blew out her tires, locked herself inside a car, and forced officers to smash her window — was law enforcement herself.
