MUNDELEIN, IL - On July 20th, 2020 at 10:39AM, Mundelein Police responded to a call regarding a passed out driver behind the wheel stopped at a busy intersection. After speaking with the callers on scene, the officer approached the parked Ford Focus and spoke to the driver. The officer observed the suspect to have blood shot glassy eyes and slurred speech. After confirming the suspect's information, he was asked to step out of the vehicle. The suspect was then arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and transported to the Mundelein Police Department. Upon arrival, the suspect was unable to walk without assistance and was physically escorted to the DUI processing room. After a brief discussion between the officers, the suspect participated in a field sobriety test (FST). During the balance test, the suspect was unable to follow instructions, had to be told to close his eyes, and was unable to balance for any length of time. The test was stopped due to safety concerns. For the one leg stand, the suspect began counting incomprehensibly. This test was also stopped due to safety concerns. During the walk-and-turn test, the suspect had to be held up by both officers for the entirety of the test which was stopped before the second set of steps. The suspect was read the Illinois Warning to Motorist form and consented to providing a breath alcohol content (BrAC) sample. The the sample yielded a result of .248% BrAC. This is over three times the legal limit (.08% BrAC) to drive in the State of Illinois.
