It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Officer Gregory Dorfman of the Westwood Police Department responded to a crash on Clairmont Avenue. It was about 7:39 PM on January 11, 2024. He found a 2015 Jeep Cherokee had hit a parked 2024 Chevy Traverse. The Jeep's front passenger side was badly damaged. The Traverse's back driver side had severe damage. Officer Dorfman first spoke with the Traverse's owner. Then he talked to the Jeep's driver, Sini. Sini said she was going to the Woman's Club. She had just left her home nearby. She admitted she was texting while looking at her phone. That's when she hit the Traverse. Officer Dorfman asked about drinking. Sini said she had one glass of wine earlier. Thinking she might be impaired, Officer Dorfman called for Sergeant Dean McCarroll. He needed help with sobriety tests. Sergeant McCarroll started with the eye test. He saw signs of impairment. Officer Dorfman then gave the Walk and Turn test. Sini couldn't keep her heel and toe together. She also lost her balance. The next test was the One Leg Stand. Sini didn't lift her foot correctly. She put it down too soon. Sergeant McCarroll administered the last test. It was the Modified Romberg Balance. She didn't do well on this one either. Given the crash, her alcohol admission, and failing the tests, Officer Dorfman arrested Sini for driving drunk. Her car was impounded for 12 hours by John's Law. Officer Dorfman took Sini to the Westwood Police Department. At the station, Sini heard the Standard Statement. She agreed to take a breath test. Her BAC was 0.17%. This is more than double the legal limit of 0.08%. After processing, her neighbor picked her up. The neighbor signed the warning form for her.
