[3/20/2022] An officer observed a white SUV traveling at a high rate of speed and passing other vehicles. The vehicle was paced at 75 mph in a 55 zone. The vehicle then crossed into a 45 zone - a traffic stop was conducted but the vehicle failed to come to a stop and took a turn, attempting maneuver away from police. After a FHP trooper helped to block the driver from driving away, he finally came to a stop. When they approached the driver, they had difficulty getting the attention of the driver. The driver was actively talking on the phone and would not make eye contact with police. The driver stated that he didn’t need to hang up the phone and that police should just wait until he was done dealing with his phone call. After this point, things went south really quickly. The driver was observed to be attempting to reach towards the gear shifter. Police requested he exit the vehicle, at which point they noticed an odor of alcohol. The driver refused and then actively resisted as police attempted to gain control.
