It had just crossed the Highlands/Sea Bright Bridge. He gave chase and saw it keep swerving on northbound Route 36. The driver would not stop, so he hit his lights near Waddell Avenue. Sgt. McGrath got out and approached the driver, Nicole Husar. He smelled booze on her breath. He saw signs she was drunk. She said she was heading to grab her husband at the ferry. Patrolman Kevin Connor showed up to help. He told her to step out for sobriety tests. McGrath ran the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus first. He noted no smooth eye tracking. Eyes jerked at max turn and before 45 degrees. Next came Walk and Turn. She missed heel-to-toe steps, turned wrong, and miscounted both ways. Then One Leg Stand. She dropped her foot too soon. Last, she botched reciting the alphabet from A to Z. Her wild drive, booze smell, and failed tests led to arrest. Patrolman Connor took her to the station. There, they read her the rights statement. She blew into the Alcotest. It showed 0.287% BAC, over three times the 0.08% limit. Cops gave her these tickets: Driving drunk (39:4-50) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Straying from marked lanes (39:4-88) Unregistered vehicle (39:3-4) No insurance (39:6B-2) Nicole had a prior DWI arrest in Shrewsbury on March 22, 2023. Before that, she got hit with tickets for not reporting a crash and fleeing the scene in Long Branch on March 2, 2023. 5:30 I just want to see her husband!! 7:43 TUV...uh... W!
