Around 2:43 PM on November 29, 2023, Sergeant Roary Miller with the Hoboken Police Department initially responded to a report of a shoplifting that had occurred at ShopRite at 900 Madison Street. He made contact with the accused shoplifter, later identified as 47-year-old Jack Corelone, who was being detained in the loss prevention office. Officer Roberto Cuevas and Officer Nathaniel Arocho arrived shortly afterwards. They asked the loss prevention officer if ShopRite wished to pursue charges, and he responded in the affirmative. The loss prevention officer also told them that this was probably not the only incident of shoplifting involving this individual. The printout itemizing the total value of the items that Jack attempted to steal indicated $88.45. According to the loss prevention officer’s account of events, ShopRite’s facial recognition software had flagged him as someone who had probably been involved in shoplifting incidents at other ShopRite locations. As they observed Jack walking between different aisles on their surveillance system, they noticed that he placed $88.45 worth of items in his shopping cart, bypassed all points of sale without rendering payment, and attempted to exit the store with the items in question. Officer Arocho placed Jack in handcuffs and Sergeant Miller transported him to the Hoboken Police Department for processing. Before the officers left the store, they told the loss prevention officer that they would send him a link to upload ShopRite’s evidence against him. During the ride to the station, Jack admitted that he had previously been arrested for driving under the influence. At the police station, Jack was fingerprinted and photographed by Officer Cuevas. They charged him with 1 count of shoplifting merchandise under $200 (2C:20-11B(1)). After Jack was processed at the Hoboken Police Department, he was released with a summons to appear in court. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information).
