It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On the night of April 19, 2025, around 11:39 PM, Officer Shane McCarthy from the Lakewood Police Department spotted a white 2002 Chrysler van heading east on Detroit Avenue, close to W Clifton Boulevard. The van's two flat tires caught his eye. He watched the driver swing left, heading north onto W Clifton Boulevard from Detroit Avenue. Soon, she pulled into the Marathon gas station at 18100 Sloane Avenue. McCarthy stepped out of his patrol car and approached the driver. She turned out to be 22-year-old Cheyenne Greathouse. Cheyenne explained she had just left the Mercury Lounge at 18206 Detroit Avenue. The van looked like it had been in a crash earlier that night. As they talked, McCarthy smelled alcohol on her breath. He noticed other signs of being drunk. She admitted to drinking some booze before driving. Officers Flowers and Bry showed up to help. They asked Cheyenne to do some sobriety tests right there. McCarthy began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, or HGN. He saw her eyes jerk without smooth tracking. The jerking stayed strong at the farthest point. It started before 45 degrees. He even spotted vertical jerking. Next came the Walk and Turn test. Cheyenne missed touching heel to toe on every step. For the One Leg Stand, she didn't lift her foot right. She dropped it too soon, before the test ended. With the two flat tires, the booze smell, her own words about drinking, and her poor showing on the tests, McCarthy arrested Cheyenne for driving while impaired, or OVI. Once in cuffs, she answered a couple more questions. They took her to the Lakewood Police Department for booking. There, they read her the ALS form. She agreed to give breath samples. The breath test showed 0.107 grams per 210 liters of breath—higher than the 0.08% limit. After processing, they gave her tickets for OVI under code 4511.19 and for driving an unsafe vehicle under 337.01. Then they let her go until court.
