On February 15, 2024, Pullman Police received a report that two alleged shoplifters were being detained in the loss prevention officer at Walmart. When Officer Winegardner arrived, the loss prevention officer explained that one of the women had placed three makeup items totaling $15.92 in her tote bag and failed to pay for them when she went through self-checkout. Her friend, and college roommate, denied any knowledge of the woman shoplifting. The woman who admitted to shoplifting corroborated the story. As a result, the friend was released while the woman who admitted to shoplifting was given a criminal citation for third degree misdemeanor theft. She was also given a lifetime ban from all Walmart stores in the U.S. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
