On April 24, 2024, loss prevention agents from Home Depot contacted Lacey Police Officer Evers to report that a woman, who had previously been trespassed, was back in the store and believed to be shoplifting. When Officer Evers arrived, the woman had already exited the store, but her ride abandoned her and fled the scene. Officer Evers told the woman to stop and a brief foot pursuit ensued. Officer Evers quickly caught the woman, but she didn't have a pair of handcuffs with her. The woman was held on the ground until other officers arrived. The woman ended up stealing over $1200 of items from Home Depot. In a plot twist, she wasn't the same individual that Home Depot employees thought had already been trespassed. The woman was charged with felony theft and obstructing and was transported to the county jail.
