On July 10, 2024. Officers from the Caledonia Police Department responded to a park for a male subject (later identified as Jesse L. Patt) laying face down on a trail. Two officers, accompanied by Caledonia Fire Department EMS, initially responded and located Patt laying on a trail accessible by foot or UTV. While investigating and checking Patt's welfare, Patt produced a firearm and fired one shot into the air, which was observed by the responding officers. Patt then placed the firearm on the ground without surrendering to officers. Additional squads to include CAPD officers, a MPPD officer, RASO SWAT teams, and drone teams responded to the area and attempted negotiations with Patt, who was making numerous suicidal statements. During communications with Patt, which lasted approximately two hours, Patt stated he burned his mothers house with her in it. Racine County Sheriff's deputies attempted to utilize less lethal tactics, to include 40mm less lethal rounds and a Noise Flash Diversionary Device, however were unsuccessful. When officers observed Patt lunging to the area where they last observed his firearm, several officers fired (one officer fired a handgun and two officers fired rifles) striking Patt. Officers on scene along with RASO Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) personnel attempted life saving measures, however Patt was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
