Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: On April 20, 2024, at about 8:31 PM, Officer Ramon Calderon from the Hoboken Police Department went to check out a car crash at the corner of 11th Street and Bloomfield Street. The accident involved a 2017 Lexus NX2 and a 2017 Honda HR-V. He first talked to a 34-year-old woman driving the Lexus, who said that the Honda hit her from behind. She allowed the Hoboken EMS team to check her out before she left the scene. Officer Calderon then spoke with the 29-year-old woman driving the Honda, who was named Kathleen. Kathleen informed the officer that she was in Hoboken to celebrate her friend's birthday and later acknowledged that she had been drinking earlier that night. She couldn't find her insurance information and showed signs of impairment. Suspecting that she might be impaired, the officer asked Kathleen to step out of the vehicle and complete some field sobriety tests. At that moment, Officer Kyle Seper showed up to observe the field sobriety tests. Officer Calderon began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, he noticed that the subject had trouble smoothly following his finger, showed distinct nystagmus when the eye was fully turned, and displayed nystagmus before reaching the 45-degree mark. However, vertical nystagmus was not present. Next, they moved on to the Walk and Turn test. Kathleen struggled to place her heel-to-toe with each step and miscounted her steps after turning around. For the final test, the One Leg Stand, she had difficulty balancing and did not lift her foot as required. Following the traffic accident, the smell of alcohol was evident, she admitted to drinking, and she couldn't complete the field sobriety tests. As a result, she was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to the Hoboken Police Department for processing. At the station, Officer Bonilla informed her about the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she consented to take breath tests. The Alcotest showed her blood alcohol concentration at 0.17%, which is over twice the legal limit of 0.08%. Once processed, she was released to a friend after signing a form about potential liability. Officer Calderon issued several citations: operating under the influence, reckless driving, using a handheld device while driving, and failing to show proof of insurance.
