On April 2, 2021 at approximately 9:13 PM, the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a one vehicle collision in Endicott, WA on Luft Road in the vicinity of Union Flat Creek Road. Sergeant Keith Cooper was the first to arrive on scene, followed by Deputy Christopher Olin. When Sergeant Cooper arrived on scene, he observed a 2020 Chevy Blazer with severe front end damage and airbag deployment. The driver, 25-year-old Amanda Jean Yockey, exhibited signs of impairment and he could smell the odor of intoxicants on her person. Amanda told the Deputy that she had been at a golf tournament in St. John and that she fell asleep behind the wheel before she crashed into a ditch. Deputy Olin proceeded to ask Amanda if she had consumed alcohol, and she admitted to drinking 4 beers in the hours prior. Based on her admission to consuming alcohol, Deputy Olin afforded her an opportunity to perform voluntary field sobriety tests. The first exercise involved the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), where Deputy Olin observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in both eyes. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test, and Amanda was unable to walk a straight line she turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Amanda was unable to maintain her balance and did not count in the correct sequence. Following the voluntary field sobriety tests, Amanda was asked to voluntarily take a PBT test, and the result was 0.162%. Based on the motor vehicle accident, her admission to consuming alcohol, her inability to perform the field sobriety exercises, and the results of her PBT test, Deputy Olin placed Amanda under arrest for driving under the influence. Amanda was subsequently transported directly to the Whitman County Jail for further processing, where she agreed to take a breathalyzer test. Deputy Olin read the Implied Consent Warnings to Amanda, and she waived her Miranda rights by agreeing to answer questions. After the 20-minute observation period was complete, Amanda submitted breath samples. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC of 0.139%, which was over the legal limit of 0.08%. She was cited under RCW 46.61.502 for driving under the influence and released with a mandatory court date after posting bail at $500. On June 17, 2021, Amanda pleaded guilty and she was sentenced to 15 days EHM and 24 months of supervised probation. She was fined $1000, along with a $43 Criminal Conviction Fee and a $600 Probation/Monitoring Fee. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information).
