It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On September 7, 2025, around 6:07 PM, Officers Wessendorf and Thorpe from the St. Charles Police Department answered a report of a possibly drunk person at Cooper's Hawk on 3710 E Main Street. The restaurant manager explained to them that a clearly drunk woman had just driven off in a gray GMC Sierra. She headed west on E Main Street. Officer Wessendorf spotted a matching GMC Sierra on E Main near Cedar Avenue. He swung around in a U-turn and pulled up behind it close to the Main Street Bridge. The truck turned north onto N 2nd Street and veered straight into the center lane. He saw the driver weaving side to side. So he flipped on his emergency lights for a stop. The driver eased into the lot at Salerno's, 320 N 2nd Street. He stepped out of his cruiser and approached. The driver turned out to be Crystal Marie Kjellsvik. At first, Crystal said she came from Geneva. Then she changed it to Cooper's Hawk in St. Charles. While talking to her, Officer Wessendorf smelled alcohol on her breath. Her words came out slurred too. Crystal owned up to three glasses of wine. But later checks at the restaurant showed she bought six. To check if she was too impaired to drive, he asked her to say the alphabet from D to W. She messed it up and didn't follow right. Next, she couldn't count back from 68 to 53. She kept going past 53. Then he had her step out for sobriety tests. The first test was Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, or HGN. In that one, Officer Wessendorf saw her eyes jerk without smooth tracking. They showed clear shakes at the far side and started jerking before 45 degrees. For the Walk and Turn, Crystal missed heel-to-toe steps. She turned the wrong way and took too many or too few steps. The last was One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot high enough and dropped it too soon. From the manager's tip about a drunk driver, her wild steering, the booze smell, her own words about drinking, and her poor test results, Officer Wessendorf arrested Crystal for DUI. He cuffed her and put her in the patrol car. They drove her back to the St. Charles Police Department for booking. There, Crystal turned down breath tests. Once processing wrapped up, they let her go to a friend until court.
