On July 20, 2024, officers with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in reference to people fighting at a marina. Upon arrival, officers made contact with two individuals, 29 year old Laura and her boyfriend Shane. Though they were acting like victims, officers began to realize their stories were not making sense. The supervisor she requested is ultimately the one who put an end to it. In the end, Laura was charged with 3 counts of battery, resisting without violence, petit theft, and disorderly intoxication. She pled no contest and was found guilty on all 6 chargers. She received a year of probation for each of the battery and theft charges and an additional 6 months for the disorderly charge, totaling 5.5 years. I was unable to locate the boyfriend’s charges.
