On April 8, 2025 around 12:39 AM, Patrolman Ryan McDermott with the Princeton Police Department observed a green 2024 Subaru Crosstrek swerving while being driven northbound on Bayard Lane. He began observing the vehicle, and observed the vehicle strike a curb while continuing to swerve. His patrol car was not equipped with functioning radar, but he estimated that the driver was going 50 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. The driver eventually turned left onto Cherry Hill Road from State Road without properly signaling even though his emergency lights had been activated. The driver eventually pulled over on Cherry Hill Road near Red Hill Road. Patrolman McDermott made contact with the driver, who was identified as Anna Corichi. As he was speaking with Anna, he detected the odor of alcohol and noticed other signs of impairment. Anna told him that she was headed home after leaving Triumph Brewing Company, a restaurant in Princeton where alcohol is served. She also told Patrolman McDermott that she worked for the Friends of Princeton Open Space. Based on his suspicion of impairment, he asked Anna to recite the alphabet from “C” to “T” and then count backwards from 67 to 49. She was unable to follow instructions, and she was eventually asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. Patrolman McDermott initially administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Patrolman McDermott observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Anna did not touch heel-to-toe on each step and turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Anna failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion while displaying a lack of balance. Based on her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, her admission to coming from a place where alcohol was served, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Anna was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Anna was transported to the Princeton Police Department for further processing. Patrolman Petrone stayed with the vehicle until it was towed for a mandatory 12-hour impound as required by John’s Law. At the Princeton Police Department, she was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she refused to submit breath samples. After she was processed, Anna was released to a friend pending her court appearance after he signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Anna’s behalf. Patrolman McDermott issued her the following summonses: Operating under the influence, refusal to submit to chemical test, consent to take samples of breath, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to give proper signal, failure to keep right, and improper right or left turn Court records indicate that Anna has previously received a ticket for careless driving in Princeton on May 17, 2024. ------------------------------------------ Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information). All videos and case documents were obtained pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq. (P.L. 2024, c.16). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. North Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person's reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
