It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At 6:01 p.m. on June 28, 2025, Officer Valentino Salgado patrolled Hoboken near 2nd Street. A loud bang rang out, sounding just like a car crash. He spotted a black 2014 Tesla Model X with bad damage on its right rear fender. The driver pointed to a white 2014 GMC SUV nearby. He said the GMC likely hit his car. Salgado walked to 1st Street and Willow Avenue. There, he talked to the GMC driver, Bailee Zimmerman. She admitted looking down at a text. Distracted, she crashed into the other car. As they spoke, Salgado saw signs she might be impaired. He asked if she drank anything. At first, she said no. Later, she confessed to a can of 8% Ginger Mule in Guttenberg that afternoon. Sergeant Francis McCourt showed up soon, along with Officers John Rodriguez, Rose Kanan, Alexander Miller, and Kyle Seper. They helped out. While chatting with Bailee, the officers smelled alcohol. They noticed more signs of impairment too. Miller asked her to do sobriety tests. He began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Next came the Walk and Turn. Bailee missed touching heel to toe. Her turn looked wrong. Last was the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. She also counted off sequence. The crash, her impairment clues, and failed tests led to her arrest for drunk driving. They impounded her car for 12 hours under John's Law. Officer Kanan took Bailee to the station for processing. There, they read her the standard statement for drivers. She agreed to breath tests. The Alcotest showed 0.13% blood alcohol—above the 0.08% limit. Once paperwork ended, they released her to a sober friend. He signed the liability warning for her. She awaited court.
